Enoteca Pinchiorri is numbered among the top ten restaurant in the world, and is among the leaders of those ten!
It has one of the best-furnished private cellars inthe world. It is present, withtop votes, in all the most
authoritative enogastronomic guide.
Giorgio and Annie,
the owners, have chosen for their restaurant a historic six-teenth-century palazzo
- in the extremely central Via Ghibellina - wich over the centuries has seen the ebb and flow of generations of the patrician Florentine Ciofi
family. The mansion, also close to Michelangelo's birthplace, is located between Piazza S. Croce, Piazza Della
Signoria and the Cathedral of S. Maria del Fiore, with its campanile by Giotto. A symbolic meeting-point, where the mere act of crossing the threshold signifies "reaching BEYOND...", so that guests may admire and appreciate the sophisticated ritual within which thay play the undisputed lead role for an entire
evening.
A total experience, every detail of which has been meticulously rehearsed under the expert direction of Annie Feolde forthe cuisine and Giorgio Pinchiorri for the wines. The evening unfolds slowly, yet inexorabily full of surprise, silently animated by the refined courtesy of the hosts and a flock of young assistance scattered through the kitchens, dining-rooms and cellars, weaving each guest's evening into a fabulous web, a dream-advenure which is yet, reality. So, "not merely a place to eat", but also a reason for beautiful people to meet in fabulous surroundings, gastronomically cheered by a synthesis of flavours which make one yearn to return to this site of delights for the palate, where it is not easy to discern whether Giorgio is dependent on Annie, the wine dependent on the food, or vice-versa!
The truth is that neither prevails over the other the two noble functions of eating and drinking are integrated and harmonised at the table, as never elsewhere. A stream of ineffable delights, served in small portions ideal for tasting, and with a growing crescendo of flavours and satiety, leading to the long and wonderful closing movement of the "dessert" . Not to mention again the wines and the boundless cellar with its priceless bottles, some with labels not to be found elsewhere. The elegance of the premises, with its charming garden for summer dinners, is enhanced by an almost obsessive attention to detail. Here is silver chiselled by Giorgio and Annie and/or by the famous silversmiths Cassetti and Braganti. Table-linen from Frette,Broggi cutelry, rare Richard-Ginori porcelain and the crystal glasses which needless to say could only be by the Austrian Riedel, passing effortlessly from your table to your
hand. |
