CONTE SPAGNOLETTI ZEULI
Andria (LE)
Apulia Region

Conti Spagnoletti Zeuli’s love of the land is very ancient.

Reliable records are kept in the archives of the family and go back to a period before the 17th century. They certify the property of fields around Castel del Monte, the impressive octagonal castle dominating the town of Andria

Castel del Monte was erected during the 13th century by Friedrich II and it was governed by Sebastiano Spagnoletti, the last ruler of the castle. From that time the history of the family was played out alongside the works and events of the period that transformed the area into beautiful countryside.

We are situated in southern Italy whose symbol is the olive tree. Situated in the heart of the countryside Onofrio Spagnoletti Zeuli, Count of Adria has continued the traditions of his ancestors with modern initiatives and investments into technology and research. This is a family who have been dedicated for centuries to the olive tree growing.

Techniques

Thanks to a limestone soil and a warm climate which is dry and sunny even in winter, the olive tree growing is practised following the growing method called "floored vase" on the two estates of the farm “Conte Spagnoletti Zeuli” – San Domenico and Zagaria, which consist of 400 acres in the province of Bari.

On these two estates, the olive trees "Coratina" and "Cima di Bitonto" are grown and they are typical to the northern part of Bari. These olives give a wonderful oil with an excellent flavour.

When they are ripe the olives are harvested by hand or by a machine which shakes them off the trees. We are very careful not to let the olives have contact with the ground and make sure they are immediately taken to the grinder. The paste is skillfully obtained using strictly controlled temperatures and hygienic conditions and thanks to the use of modern technology the olive paste gives this wonderful flavor and oil.

A high quality natural decantation of extra-virgin olive oil is obtained by gathering the olive paste in huge containers which are kept away from light and heat. Every stage of the operation from tree to oil is done with experience, skill and passion. Selection of Conte Conte Spagnoletti Extra Virgin Olive Oil is highly appreciated for its vivid fruity fragrance and for its dark thick density.

It also is a "D.O.P." (Protected Origin Denomination) oil belonging to the Safeguarding Consortium “Terrautentica”. It has a fresh, lively taste and is slightly piquant. The oil is easily digested and is excellent for adding to any typical Mediterranean dish.

Low acidity and the absolute absence of pesticides make this oil one of the healthiest products of a land which still practices ancient production methods.
