The story of the Locanda begins in 1997 when, Carmen 26 and Giancarlo 27 decide to begin their life together in a small Umbrian village. Its size, the quality of life and the importance of human relations made Montone, a charming XIIth century village perched on a hilltop overlooking the Tiber Valley, our home and our future. We bought the house where Braccio Fortebraccio, the famous Condottiere once lived, and which is now the Locanda del Capitano. We celebrated our wedding there, so, right from the outset and almost as if by chance, we opened the door of our home to our guests and welcomed them in the same style and with the same pleasure as one welcomes a friend; with the same style and the same warmth as the people of this wonderful village welcomed us. So it is here that Giancarlo, nicknamed the Captain by the villagers, Carmen and Captain Junior, Gian Marco, who was born on the 18th of May 2001, live happily together.

The Locanda del Capitano is without doubt one of the most typically romantic hotels in Umbria. It looks out over the tiled roofs of Montone from its elegant terraces where during the summer months one may dine in a unique atmosphere.

The beauty of the village itself (the Locanda is in the heart of medieval Montone), its exclusive and welcoming setting (the Locanda is an ancient stone building dating back to the 12th century and was the last dwelling of the famous Condottiere, Braccio Fortebraccio), a fairy-tale atmosphere where noise and pollution are unknown, make the Locanda del Capitano the ideal place for anyone wishing to regenerate both body and mind.

ROOMS

The rooms, decorated by the owners in the ancient local tradition, are equipped with en-suite bathrooms, telephone, cable TV and minibar.

RESTAURANT

The small and exclusive restaurant is personally managed by the owners and offers eno-gastronomic menus based on regional specialties with a personal touch. Its cellars are stocked with more than 300 labels of specially selected regional and national wines.

How to get there
By Car: The E45 motorway from Orte to Ravenna runs north-south through Umbria and is the main road-link with the rest of Italy. It connects to Italy's main north-south artery the Autostrada del Sole ( "A1") via Perugia-Bettole, Arezzo and Orte. From the E45 main roads lead to all the major Umbrian centers: Perugia, Gubbio, Assisi, Foligno, Spoleto, Todi, Orvieto, Terni and to the nearby Tuscany and Marche regions.

By Train: Main connections to the Italian rail network are provided by Central Umbrian Railways via Umbertide station (only 9km away) and Italian State Railways via Ponte S. Giovanni and Terontola .

By Bus: daily departures from Umbertide (9km) for Rome and Florence. Local bus routes provide connections to nearby centres.
