What to do when you invite someone round, how to set the table, how to arrange the seating.
A few simple rules for you to remember.
1
Inviting to Lunch or Dinner - the right hours

Remember that in Italy the main meals have different names as you can see below:
Prima colazione breakfast
Colazione lunch
Pranzo dinner
Cena after midnight

Colazione meals are less formal than the meal. In both cases, invitation is made by phone but if it is an invitation to an important meal, either for the number of guests or their importance, after the phone call a written invitation will follow.

You invite someone to colazione between one and quarter past one.
Pranzo
is between eight and nine.
The time depends on the habits of the region and the season. In northern Italy the mealtimes are earlier than in southern Italy.

Make sure you arrive exactly on time but you are allowed to be a few minutes late.

The host will already be in the dining room when the first guest arrives.
