Situated in the centre of a 160 hectares estate, on the hilltop overlooking the village of Valfabbrica, the Giomici Castle proudly stands with its towers and bulwarks.

It is located just in the middle of Umbria, the green heart of Italy, between Gubbio and Assisi, at 35 Km. north-east from Perugia.Completely restructured, it dominates the beautiful country sight from its strategic spot high in a hilltop in the middle of woods and green pastures, at 580 m. above sea level.

The first written document about the Giomici Castle dates back to the year 1160 and consists of an official Diploma by the famous emperor Federico Barbarossa, stating the conquest of the castle of "Giomisco" in favour of the city-state of Assisi.

Here, in this ancient hamlet the owners have restored apartments for those tourists who know how to appreciate the unforgettable charm of a holiday in such a historical and natural setting. And if absolute peace and quiet are an important ingredient for a perfect holiday, then the old isolated cottages that dot the large estate are ideal for a stay.

Here, among the rows of vineyards or in the great meadows where "avelignesi" breed horses and herds of "chianina" cattle graze freely, time takes on absolutely different dimensions. This is ideal country for long walks along the many paths across cool valleys and shadowy woods, where truffles grow, or for a rest under a tall oak tree.

Mystic and artistic Umbria, with its cities of art, is only a short distance away. The cuisine of this area is among the most genuine and tasty. The olive oil and wine are the pride of the Giomici Castle and they can be purchased in the small shop of the medieval hamlet, as well as honey ant other local specialities.

On the estate, covering an area of 160 hectares covered with woods and green pastures, there is a mixed farm for agriculture (forage, vineyards and olive-groves) and cattle breeding (cows and horses). All guests of Giomici can freely roam around the estate, enter the stables or the meadows where cows and horses are gazing, go rooting for truffles (from August to October) with the help of our specially trained dog, help with the grape harvest (2nd week of October) or the olive harvest (December), go mountainbiking to Assisi, walk the "Sentiero della Pace" (Path of Peace) which is to be realised between Assisi and Gubbio, passing near the Giomici-estate.

Guests can also go horse riding to really feel part of the countryside. Our "haflingers" are very docile so are suitable for those less experienced and happier to practice or have riding lessons in the 1200 square meter paddock. But if you'd rather just relax, the beautiful 10 x 20 meter swimming pool lies at the foot of the hill. A kiddies paddling pool, sunchairs and umbrellas are all available for you.
A 25 x 45 meter football field and a beach volley course are available for guests, as long as table tennis.

There are also two lakes on the property. Bring your own fishing tackle and catch carps and other fish!

Since Giomici is in the middle of Umbria, it’s an excellent exit road to famous and beautiful towns like Gubbio, Assisi, Perugia, Spoleto, Todi, Orvieto, etc. and even to big cities like Roma, Firenze, Pisa, etc. which can be easily reached also by train.
