One can date the Villa" La Castellaccia" from the architecture of its unique tower, which was constructed around the year 1000 AD. Subsequently, several additions have been built around the tower. The main entrance archway is of "serena" stone and is inscribed with the date 1614. The same noble familiy has inhabited the Villa since 1600. The interior private Chapel, dated 1700, gives one the feeling of bygone centuries.
The Villa is situated on the gentle slopes of the Tiber valley at the border between
Tuscany and Umbria. It can be reached by car from Rome Airport in about 3 hours. A walled park with mature trees and its own vineyard surroun the estate , offering great privacy. Its guests can admire the
valley, the superb wiew of the town of Sansepolcro, birthplace of Piero Della francesca, and the "Alpe della Luna" mountains. It is very close to Anghiari, caprese michelangelo, (The artist's birthplace), and Monterchi, towns of artistic and historical interest.They all boast great a number of excellent
and traditional Tuscan restaurants for all tastes. One hour away by car the towns of
Arezzo, Cortona, Assisi, Gubbio, Perugia, Spoleto and Urbino each offering more art and history
as well as more local wines and food of high standard.
Florence, Siena and the Republic of S.Marino are one and half hours by car, as is the Rimini coast, where one can experience Italian
seefood.
One can enjoy many outdoors activity in the
neighborhood. The Montedoglio lake, located only 5 minutes away is wonderful for
sailing, canoeing and windsurfing. A riding school is also only 5 minutes
away. Hiking enthusiasts can walk for hundred of miles on unspoiled mountain
trails, with breathtaking views at every bend of the path. Antognolla Golf and Country Club is a splendid 18 hole par 71 course located half hour from "La
Castellaccia". The Villa's swimming pool is a beautiful 5x10 mt located in panoramic view of Sansepolcro Valley.

"La
Castellaccia" has retained all the architectural features of many
eras, but posesses conveniences for the discriminating guest, like modern
bathrooms, hot water and central heating.
The antique
furnishings and décor reflect the centuries old style of the Villa. The
owner lives in a suite on the 2nd floor of the Villa. He's happy to assist
his clients with his local knowledge of the area. He also speaks English
and French.

to reach La Castellaccia |
Coming from the
north:
Take the A14 from Bologna toward Ancona, the way out is "Cesena ovest" toward
Rome, take the E45. The way out is Sansepolcro north, going toward Sansepolcro look to Gragnano on the
right,go toward Gragnano, cross it and after a little cemetery on the right and a school on the left and the Gragnano church on the
right, you find a downhill, at the end, look in front of you and in uphill you see the Villa la
Castellaccia. |

Coming from the
south:
Starting from Rome Areoporto di Fiumicino, take A1 toward
Florence, the way out is Orte, take the E45 toward Cesena, the way out is Sansepolcro
north...follow the same indications as north.
Coming from Arezzo: follow the main road toward Sansepolcro Town, until you reach the first traffic
lights. About 100 meter after these, turn left into viale Osimo and continue on this
(about 5 Km) to Gragnano. Drive through the village, passing small cemetery on
right, and school on left, and go down a small hill. You will then see Villa La Castellaccia up
ahead.
