Our spacious farmhouse (Casale, in Italian) is deep in the countryside, along a road that leads to the highest mountains in Umbria. It is only one kilometer from the town of Norcia, in the land where Saint Benedict was born.
The landscape around us is a series of valleys, rivers and ancient roads that crossed the Apennine mountains between Umbria and the Marche region. Our land is rich in art, history, culture and traditions that make a visit here a unique experience. It is a perfect base for visiting many of Italy's most beautiful towns. Nearby are unspoiled medieval villages.
We’re located in the National Park of the Sibillini Mountains, a 70,000-hectare nature reserve with peaks of over 2,000 meters, unspoiled valleys and fascinating limestone karst highlands.
Well-maintained trails pass through beech woods and pasture lands where wolves, wildcats, wild goats, eagles and peregine falcons live.
A typical farm house gradually enlarged at the beginning of the century, just like most of the small local farms. At first it was a dwelling for the new family that was forming and a few animals. Afterwards, when children were born, the house was enlarged with great sacrifice and other farm buildings were gradually added such as a barn, granary, stables and a large shed to house the farm machinery which can still be seen today.
Rooms and hospitality
The present restructuring concerns the central block.
We have eight double rooms with private baths. A third bed can be added to some. Two of the eight rooms are part of a separate apartment with a well-equipped kitchen.
Each room is different, but all have décor that evokes our natural setting. The interior design is typical of the region: stone walls, wooden beams, wrought iron beds and hand-crafted Umbrian furniture. In winter for those guests that suffer the cold, apart from open fires and modern radiators, there are typical bed-warmers (the so-called "prete").
Services
Our swimming pool is a magical opportunity to swim, sun and relax in an unspoiled natural
setting. A splendid view of Monte Patino, stone and terracotta bordering the sparkling water, and bamboo outdoor furniture are part of the pleasure.
The Casale has a manége and a long, well-kept trail on the estate’s grounds. For expert riders, we offer riding in the beautiful surrounding valleys. We can also stable horses on request.
Products
Exclusively organic farming is practiced on the ten hectares belonging to the Casale. No harmful substances are used, so that quality products are obtained without damaging the environment.
The entire production of Casale nel Parco dei Monti Sibillini is certified by the Italian Association for Organic Agriculture (AIAB).
Our most important crop is lentils, a legume that has found an ideal environment in these mountains. Other crops we grow are farro (spelt), beans and cicerchia (Lathyrus sativus), an ancient legume. Everything we grow in our vegetable garden is available to our guests.
Excursions
In the spare time one can take advantage of the Park Guide Organisation to go along the old paths, take a horse or mule ride, a guided tour of the farming and pastoral work, visit the famous water-meadows (Benedictine reclamation), visit the numerous historical attractions - and those artistic of Norcia and its surroundings: the Castellina, the Town Hall, St. Francis, St. Agostine, St. Eutizio Abbey, St. Salvatore di Campi, the White Madonna of Ancarano, The Castellucio Plains, the ascent of Monte Vettore and Monte Patino.
From Norcia one can reach the sea by going through the tunnel that connects it to the Marche (we are only 60 kms from the
sea).
