Between Tuscany and Latium deep in the "Selva del Lamone" natural park, there is a place where time has stood still, where nature and history come together in magical harmony:
The Voltone.
You will enter a New World on leaving the tamac road behind you. 6 kms of country road take you through uncontaminated countryside into the heart of this delightful location.
The Voltone belongs to a world where history began with the Etruscans. It gets its name from the sacred temple dedicated to the Goddess
Voltumna.
The Voltone is surrounded by numerous archaeological sites: Sovana, Castro, Vulci, Tarquinia... which testify to the fascinating culture of the
Etruscans.
This was once the old feudal home of the Chigi princes, and subsequently of the Tortonia princes. The Voltone is a little village dating from the 5th century and has been the property of the Parenti family for over a
century. Donatella and Daniela have now opened The Voltone to welcome you, while respecting both tradition and modern
comforts.
Rooms, Living Room and restaurant
The windows in our 30 rooms frame fascinating views of the surrounding landscape like fine
paintings. The comfortable rooms, furnished in a style reminiscent of bygone days, offer every comfort, also for non-smokers. Excellent service
guaranteed.
A special welcome is reserved for guests, who gather together in the sitting room as they would in their own
homes. Everyone can find a moment to relax in this warm and friendly atmosphere reading a good book, sipping the delicious Voltone liqueur or listening to good music.
In addition, every day our cuisine offers new dishes, reinventing traditional recipes with flair and imagination, using local produce and simple, genuine
ingredients. An old tufa cellar is sometimes used for the tasting of specially selected typical wines of the
region.
Surroundings
The little village of the Voltone is surrounded by a large park with ancient trees: holm-oak, cedar, cypress and chestnut, which are the ideal habitat for squirrels and
hedgehogs.
The historic heritage and richness of the countryside provide an ideal setting for organised visits to archaeological and artistic
sites. The woods which surround the Voltone are perfect for walking, cycling and horse
riding. There is also a golf practising area. Painting lessons or cookery courses can also be
taken.
Courses are organised from time to time for those with a particular interest in
photography.
Patrick Nicolais, a well-known international photographer conducts the courses which include development and printing
techniques, in a dark room which once was an old cellar.
