30 Kms. from Milan and immersed in the unspoilt countryside of the Parco del Ticino, close to
Besate, one arrives at Cascina Caremma, an organic farm combining agriculture
with relaxed farmhouse hospitality. |
 |
The surrounding farmland, reclaimed by Cistercian Monks in the
13th century, and the Ticino Park offer constant contact with nature with numerous routes for rambling, bicycling, canoeing
and horseriding. Moreover, there are interesting excursions and visits to the famous Cistercian Abbey in the medieval village of
Morimondo colse-by.
Cascina Caremma, as information centre of the Parco del Ticino, supplies ideas, material and
educational aids for organising real adventures in this splendid comer of the Pianura Padana.
Children are free to run, play and spend happy days in the open air discovering cows, hens, greese and pigs; animals bred in the farmsheds
surrounding the farmhouse.
Many interesting teaching activities are organised and by means of the "agro ambientale" itinerary one can rediscover the rhythms of nature
and rustic life cyclies.
For schools: visits, lessons, trips away for several days and "nature"
weeks, all in a turist context but very different and far away from the normal more commercialised type of recreations.
The old granary, full of atmosphere and bringin back past times with its exposed beams and Capuchin ceiling, makes an ideal framework for
banquets, receptions and parties. The room, guaranteeing space for approximately 20 places, is also
equipped for conventions, training seminars and business conferences, all in a
"natural" enviroment. The oldest room is a typical farm-labourer's home with a vast fireplace
and a still-functioning wood oven dating back to the end of the 17th
century.
Ten bedrooms, all with private bath, have been created out of the old
farm-labourers' cottages, maintaining unchanged the magic of times gone-by and offering evocative and comfortable
accomodation.
Organic agriculture uses
nature's laws and excludes the use of fertilisers, pesticides and
chemicals, thereby respecting the environment and general health. The 36 hectares of framland are cultivated according to
these methods (AIAB certification) and produce rice, polenta maize, wheat, vegetables and
fruit; essential ingradients for the delicious Lombardy dishes prepared with care and served in the three farmhouse
dining rooms. Rice, flour, meat and cured meats are avaiable and sold directly on the
farm.
